Lagos Begins Online Verification For Pensioners
Lagos State is using digital verification to update pension records, confirm retirees’ status and strengthen the administration of pension benefits.
The Lagos State Government is advancing digital pension verification to make it easier for eligible retirees to confirm their status and help authorities maintain accurate pension records.
The Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), which regulates and supervises pension administration in the state public service, operates an online “I Am Alive” verification system for pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
Through the online portal, eligible pensioners can complete liveness confirmation remotely, reducing the need for unnecessary travel and physical appointments. The verification process also helps the commission confirm that pension records remain accurate and that benefits are administered appropriately.
The portal requires pensioners to provide their Oracle pension number and surname before proceeding with verification. Pensioners are advised to ensure that the information submitted matches their existing records to avoid delays.
The digital system forms part of broader efforts to improve pension administration, strengthen record management and make services more accessible to retired public servants.
In a related development, the state government commenced a data verification and harmonisation exercise in April 2026 for retirees directly recruited by government-owned agencies, parastatals and companies who were not captured under the conventional Oracle-based pension records.
The exercise, coordinated by the Parastatals Monitoring Office, is intended to reconcile existing records, address discrepancies and establish a more reliable database of retirees. Officials said improved records would support more efficient administration of post-service benefits.
The verification initiatives come amid continuing efforts to improve pension management and ensure that eligible retirees receive their entitlements through accurate and reliable records.
LASPEC has also warned pensioners to remain vigilant against fraudsters who may pose as commission officials and request personal information or payments under the pretext of conducting verification.
Pensioners are advised to use official government platforms and contact the commission directly if they encounter difficulties or require clarification.
The online verification portal is available at https://verify.laspec.gov.ng/.
However, pensioners should confirm whether a specific verification window is currently open before attempting to complete the process, as previous exercises have operated within designated periods.
