Lagos Airport Gets Two AmbuLifts to Assist Passengers with Reduced Mobility

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has taken delivery of two AmbuLifts for deployment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to improve accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.

The specialised vehicles are designed to assist passengers who require additional support when boarding or disembarking from aircraft, particularly wheelchair users and others who may have difficulty using aircraft stairs.

FAAN said the equipment would help ensure that passengers with mobility limitations receive safe, efficient and dignified assistance throughout their journey.

The keys to the two AmbuLifts were formally handed over to NACHO Aviation Services by FAAN’s Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, who will oversee their deployment and operation at the airport.

The development forms part of ongoing efforts by the airport authority to strengthen passenger facilitation services and improve the overall travel experience at Nigeria’s busiest international airport.

FAAN said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that passengers receive appropriate support regardless of their physical mobility limitations.

The introduction of the two AmbuLifts comes as major rehabilitation and accessibility improvements continue at the Lagos airport.

The authority has also disclosed plans to incorporate additional accessibility features into the upgraded terminals, including wheelchair-accessible ramps, elevators and dedicated routes for passengers with mobility challenges.

Improved flight information systems with both audio and visual capabilities are also expected to assist passengers with hearing or visual impairments.

With the addition of the two new AmbuLifts, FAAN is seeking to make passenger movement more inclusive and reduce difficulties faced by travellers who require special assistance.

The authority has advised passengers who need mobility assistance to arrange the service through their airlines ahead of travel so that appropriate support can be provided.

The latest intervention is part of broader efforts to modernise facilities at the Lagos airport and improve services for passengers as rehabilitation work continues across the terminals.
