The Labour Party has formally ratified Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, with the party saying the move reflects its commitment to a people-focused governance agenda.

The Labour Party has officially confirmed Chibuzo Okereke as its flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election. His ratification followed his emergence through a consensus reached by party leaders, members and stakeholders at a meeting held in Abuja on May 30, 2026.

Speaking after the confirmation, Okereke urged Nigerians to renew their belief in the country, arguing that governance should take priority over politics. He said leadership must focus on improving citizens’ lives through better security, economic growth, social development and restored confidence in public institutions.

The Labour Party candidate said Nigeria is facing not only economic and security pressures, but also a deeper crisis of confidence, with many citizens losing faith in the ability of government and institutions to deliver results. He maintained that the true strength of the country lies in its people, and that public policy should be directed at expanding opportunity, dignity and prosperity for Nigerians.

Okereke pledged that, if elected, his administration would place citizens at the centre of governance and pursue policies aimed at improving education, healthcare, security and economic productivity. He added that responsible leadership should create conditions that allow people to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.

He also pointed to rising living costs, insecurity, unemployment, weak infrastructure, energy shortages, high maternal and infant mortality, and the growing number of out-of-school children as some of the key challenges confronting the country. Despite this, he expressed confidence that Nigeria could overcome its difficulties through strategic investment, innovation and people-driven leadership.
