Kebbi Begins 58km Road Construction, Launches Other Projects in Three LGAs
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has flagged off the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Local Government Areas to improve transportation, support agricultural production and stimulate economic activities. The projects include the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road and several urban and rural access routes.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has commenced the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across three local government areas as part of efforts to improve connectivity, strengthen agricultural activities and boost economic development.
The projects, flagged off on Tuesday, cover Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Local Government Areas. They include the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, the Unguwa Jeji–Gayi–Diggi–Maidahini road and several access roads within Birnin Kebbi.
Other routes earmarked for construction include roads in Aliero Quarters, behind Azbir Arena, the Old Garage area behind Texaco, and the road linking Birnin Kebbi Police Station Junction to Nagari College.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremonies, Idris said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and providing infrastructure that would directly improve residents’ lives.
He explained that the roads would connect communities, ease the movement of people and agricultural produce, and create economic opportunities for farmers, traders and other business operators.
The governor emphasised that improved road networks were essential to economic growth because they facilitate the movement of goods and services while strengthening commercial relationships between communities.
He particularly highlighted the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, noting that although it was not included in his original campaign promises, the government considered it necessary because of its economic importance to the benefiting communities.
Idris said the decision to award the contract was driven by the need to improve transportation, support agricultural production and strengthen trade across the affected areas.
The contract for the Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road was awarded to M/S China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to extend infrastructure development to communities whose economic activities depend heavily on efficient transportation and access to markets.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Works, Umar Muslim, assured residents that the projects would be executed in line with approved specifications and quality standards.
He said the Ministry of Works would monitor the contractors to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and construction requirements.
Muslim added that the projects would improve the movement of goods and services, facilitate agricultural development and create better conditions for private investment.
He commended the governor for approving the projects, noting that improved road infrastructure could stimulate commercial activities and contribute to increased internally generated revenue for the state.
The commissioner expressed confidence that the roads, upon completion, would strengthen connectivity among the benefiting communities and support sustainable economic growth across Kebbi State.
