Kebbe Attack: Sokoto Govt Declares Total War on Terrorists

The Sokoto State Government has declared a total war on terrorists and other criminal elements following a deadly attack in Kebbe Local Government Area.

The government also approved N9 million in immediate financial assistance for families of victims and people injured in the attack.

Acting on the directive of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, a high-powered delegation led by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Prof. Jabir Sani Maihulla, visited affected communities on Saturday to sympathise with bereaved families, console survivors and deliver relief materials.

Under the emergency assistance package, N8 million was distributed to the families of eight deceased victims, with each family receiving N1 million. The families also received food supplies.

Four injured victims were collectively given N1 million, with each receiving N250,000. They were also provided with three bags each of rice, millet and maize.

Addressing residents and relatives of the victims, Maihulla expressed concern over the killings and conveyed the governor’s determination to intensify efforts against terrorism and violent criminality across the state.

He said the state government would continue to deploy available institutional, financial and logistical resources to support security agencies operating in affected communities.

The commissioner said the administration had been providing operational vehicles, logistics and other necessary assistance to strengthen security operations and support efforts to end terrorist activities.

The intervention comes amid persistent security challenges in parts of Sokoto, where terrorist and criminal activities have continued to threaten rural communities, disrupt economic activities and undermine agricultural livelihoods.

The Executive Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Council, Musa Garba Kuchi, commended the governor for the financial and material intervention, describing it as timely and compassionate.

Traditional leaders in the area also expressed appreciation for the government’s response and called for lasting peace and stronger security measures across Kebbe and the wider state.

The state government said it would not abandon communities affected by terrorism and violent crime, stressing its commitment to protecting residents and supporting security agencies.

The latest declaration represents a renewed effort by the Sokoto administration to confront armed groups operating in vulnerable communities, while the relief package is intended to provide immediate support to families affected by the Kebbe attack.

Authorities are expected to sustain security operations and logistical support as efforts continue to restore safety and confidence in affected communities.
