Kano Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf Gives ₦50,000 Cash Relief to 5,800 Women, Funding Secured Till December

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has given ₦50,000 cash relief to 5,800 women as part of his administration's ongoing monthly women's empowerment and poverty relief programme, with this month's edition taking place at the Open Arena of the Kano Government House on Monday.

The event brought together beneficiaries selected from across all 44 local government areas of Kano State, alongside government officials, committee representatives, and a special federal guest who attended on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Delivering his address at the event, Governor Abba stated that funding for the programme had already been secured for every month running through to December 2026, guaranteeing beneficiaries continuity in the disbursement schedule without interruption. "We are going to commence this empowerment programme of 5,800 women who we have selected from all the 44 Local government areas of the state," he said, outlining the scale of this particular cohort of beneficiaries.

According to the governor, the practical distribution process would be handled locally, with representatives of the women's programme committee from each local government area set to formally hand over the empowerment funds to beneficiaries the day after the Government House inauguration ceremony. "The members of the committee representing the women programme from the local governments will hand over the empowerment to them by tomorrow after today's inauguration," he explained.

Governor Abba also situated the latest disbursement within the broader continuity of the programme, recalling that the monthly empowerment initiative has been running since the very beginning of his administration. He stressed that beneficiaries could expect uninterrupted monthly payments through to the end of the year. "These funds are readily available from now to December without any break or hitch and all beneficiaries will get their empowerment monthly accordingly," he said.

On how beneficiaries should make use of the funds, the governor offered a flexible approach, encouraging women to choose ventures that suited their individual circumstances and interests rather than prescribing a single business model. "Finally, I will say, you are free to select any micro business of your choice and invest," he stated, leaving beneficiaries free to determine how best to apply the funds toward income-generating activities of their own choosing.

Also present at the event was the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajiya Mariya Bunkure, who attended as the official representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In her remarks, Bunkure praised Governor Yusuf's continued support for women throughout his tenure, describing him as a leader with a big heart who has consistently prioritised women's welfare. She encouraged beneficiaries to reciprocate the governor's gesture through positive and productive use of the support they had received.

"Governor Yusuf is indeed practically a 'He for She' as clearly seen in the way he has been empowering and supporting women throughout his tenure as governor," Bunkure said, framing the programme as reflective of a broader, sustained commitment to gender-inclusive governance within the state.

The monthly women's empowerment initiative has become a recurring feature of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration since he assumed office, with the programme designed to provide direct financial relief to women across Kano State on an ongoing basis rather than as a one-off intervention. By confirming that funding has already been secured through the remainder of 2026, the governor appeared keen to reassure beneficiaries and the wider public of the programme's continuity, even as questions around its long-term sustainability beyond the current fiscal year remain to be addressed in subsequent budget cycles.
