Joshua Reunites With Fury’s Former Trainer Ben Davison

Anthony Joshua has reunited with trainer Ben Davison ahead of his highly anticipated heavyweight fight against Tyson Fury on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Davison has previously worked with both fighters, having trained Fury during his comeback to boxing before later joining Joshua’s camp.

Joshua had moved away from Davison after his defeat by Daniel Dubois and subsequently worked with members of Oleksandr Usyk’s training team for his next two fights.

However, the former heavyweight champion has now brought Davison back as his head trainer for the Fury bout, while continuing to receive assistance from members of Usyk’s team.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said the boxer had maintained a relationship with Davison even while working with other trainers and that his return was not solely prompted by Davison’s knowledge of Fury.

“Ben's a great trainer,” Hearn said, explaining that Davison had continued to work with Joshua behind the scenes during his previous training camps.

Hearn added that Joshua felt Davison would be a useful addition as he prepares for Fury, particularly from a strategic perspective.

Davison trained Fury during his return to boxing and was in his corner for five fights, including Fury’s 2018 draw with Deontay Wilder. Fury later moved to SugarHill Steward’s camp.

Fury has reacted critically to Joshua’s decision to reunite with Davison, questioning why Joshua returned to a trainer he had previously left.

Joshua has also revealed that Peter Fury, Tyson Fury’s uncle and former trainer, has provided advice during his preparation for the December bout. Peter Fury played a key role in Tyson Fury’s victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

The December 11 contest will be the first time Davison works in Joshua’s corner against Fury, having previously coached the British heavyweight during the early stage of his comeback.

The fight is scheduled to take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium as the two former world champions finally meet after years of negotiations.
