Jarvis Warns Peller Over Second Wife Plan
Nigerian content creator Jarvis has threatened to sue her husband, Peller, after he allegedly revealed plans to take a second wife just months into their marriage. In a viral Snapchat video, she accused him of changing the terms of their union, warning that he would “sleep in prison” if she follows through with legal action.
Nigerian social media personality Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, popularly known as Jarvis, has threatened to take legal action against her husband, Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, following a disagreement over his alleged plan to marry a second wife just months after their highly publicised wedding.
In a video posted on her Snapchat page, Jarvis questioned why the matter was being raised only a few months into their marriage, revealing that Peller had presented himself as a Muslim and told her that any woman he would marry as a second wife would also be a Muslim. She maintained that the arrangement was different from what she understood before agreeing to marry him and threatened to sue him, repeatedly stating that she would not accept what she described as a change from the understanding they had before getting married.
“I will sue Peller. He’s telling me he’s a Muslim and that he will marry a Muslim girl. Our marriage is not even up to four months, and he’s already threatening to get a second wife, and she must be a Muslim like him. This is not what you told me before I agreed to marry you,” Jarvis said. She added, “I will sue him. This is not what you promised. How many months into marriage? You are saying another thing. He told me he’s a Muslim. Me, I have Muslim background too. You too have Muslim background. I will sue him five years. If I don’t sue you, let me bend. You will sleep in prison. Muslim and you went to church. Me too as a Muslim girl can marry 10. You dey craze, commot for here.”
The dispute erupted barely two months after the couple’s lavish wedding celebrations, which captivated social media and drew a wide circle of Nigerian entertainers and content creators. Peller and Jarvis met through TikTok live sessions in 2023, and what began as on-screen chemistry grew into a relationship followed by millions. They held their civil wedding in Lagos on July 29, 2026, followed by a traditional ceremony on August 1 and a private white wedding on August 8, 2026.
The controversy has reignited debates about the interaction between statutory and Islamic marriage laws in Nigeria. A Nigerian lawyer, Waliu Taofik, had previously clarified that Nigerian law permits a Muslim man who has contracted a marriage under the Marriage Act to subsequently marry another Muslim woman under Islamic law. “Peller, I am pleased to inform you that as a Muslim man that married under the Act, you’re allowed under the law to get married to another woman (a Muslim woman) under Islamic law (Nikkah). So, the so-called ‘registry’ or ‘court’ marriage does not affect Muslim men,” Taofik wrote on X.
Jarvis’s threat to sue, however, raises complex legal questions about the enforceability of promises made before marriage and the extent to which statutory marriages can restrict the application of Islamic personal law. Under Nigerian law, a statutory marriage is presumed monogamous, but the interaction between the Marriage Act and Islamic law has long been a subject of legal debate, particularly in cases involving Muslim men who contract statutory marriages before taking additional wives under Islamic rites.
The development has also drawn reactions from fellow content creators and fans, with many taking to social media to weigh in on the controversy. Carter Efe, a popular streamer, had earlier claimed that Peller and Jarvis were pressured by the internet into getting married, predicting they would regret the decision in four years. His comments have resurfaced amid the current dispute, adding fuel to the ongoing conversation about the couple’s relationship.
Peller, a Muslim, and Jarvis, who has also acknowledged her Muslim background, now find themselves at the centre of a public dispute that touches on faith, marriage, and the law. Neither party has issued a formal statement beyond the viral video, and it remains unclear whether Jarvis will proceed with her threat to sue. For a couple whose love story played out almost entirely in the public eye, the latest chapter is a stark reminder that the personal and the public are never easily separated in the age of social media.
As the controversy continues to unfold, it raises important questions about the expectations and promises that underpin modern marriages, particularly when faith, culture, and law intersect. For now, the ball is in Peller’s court, and the public is watching to see whether the couple can resolve their differences privately or whether Jarvis will make good on her threat to take the matter to court.
