The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Delta State, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, has inaugurated his 2027 campaign headquarters in Asaba as the party intensifies mobilisation ahead of the general elections.

The inauguration on Thursday was attended by the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Delta North senatorial candidate Victor Ochei, Delta South candidate Adowei Binaebi, party leaders and supporters.

Iyovwaye said the campaign headquarters would coordinate statewide consultations, policy development and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.

He said his campaign would focus on security, healthcare, transportation and housing, with the objective of improving the welfare and economic prospects of residents.

“If you have governance where there is no value addition to the life and welfare of the people, it cannot be governance,” he said.

The candidate also said the people of Delta State, rather than endorsements by traditional rulers or political elites, would determine the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.

He said eligible voters would have the opportunity to assess the candidates and make their choices at the ballot box.

Omo-Agege identified inadequate power supply, unemployment and healthcare as issues requiring attention in the state and pledged his support for the NDC candidates.

He also said the party would work to protect its votes during the election, adding that it was seeking to win the three senatorial seats and a majority of the House of Representatives seats in Delta State.

Obi, while expressing support for the Delta campaign, called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

He said citizens should be able to track how government funds were spent and reiterated his call for Nigeria to move from a consumption-driven economy to one focused more on production.

On infrastructure in the Niger Delta, Obi cited the East-West Road and said residents should benefit more directly from the resources generated from the region.

He also called for improvements in healthcare to reduce the need for Nigerians to seek medical treatment abroad, saying hospitals in the region should be made functional.

The campaign council said the headquarters, located along Dr Chimokwu Way, off Mariam Babangida Road, Asaba, would coordinate community engagements and town hall meetings across the state as the party presents its governance proposals ahead of the 2027 elections.
