Insecurity: Adamawa Begins Fencing of Schools, to Hire 3,000 Teachers
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri says Adamawa is strengthening school security while expanding its teaching workforce by 3,000.
The Adamawa State Government has begun measures to strengthen security in public schools and plans to recruit an additional 3,000 teachers for basic education schools across the state.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri disclosed the planned recruitment on Monday during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Yola, where he said the government remained committed to improving the quality and safety of education.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, said the additional teachers would help sustain the state’s investment in education and address staffing needs across its schools.
The state government has already concluded the recruitment of 5,000 teachers. Of that number, 4,056 have had their details captured by the Accountant-General’s Office and are expected to be uploaded onto the state payroll, while the remaining 944 are undergoing verification.
The latest recruitment plan comes as Adamawa continues to address security challenges that have affected schools, particularly in communities that have experienced insurgency.
The government has commenced the construction of perimeter fencing, gates and gatehouses at vulnerable schools to provide safer learning environments for pupils, teachers and other staff.
Earlier, the state Executive Council approved a contract for the construction of a perimeter fence, gate and gatehouse at Government Secondary School, Fufore. The project was valued at N781.3 million.
The government said the absence of adequate perimeter security at some schools exposed students and staff to security risks.
Fintiri also highlighted other investments in the education sector, including the construction of classrooms and model basic education schools, as well as the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for final-year students in public schools.
He said teachers remained central to the development of the state and disclosed that responsibility allowances would be introduced for head teachers and principals to strengthen school leadership.
The government has also continued efforts to improve teacher recruitment, deployment and promotion through the state’s Teaching Service Commission.
The initiatives form part of Adamawa’s broader efforts to improve access to education while creating safer environments for teaching and learning, particularly in areas affected by insecurity.
