INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Voter Registration Website
INEC warns Nigerians against a fake registration website seeking personal information from prospective voters.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that a nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing.
The commission said the website, which is circulating online, falsely announced a registration period running from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
INEC said the platform is not affiliated with the commission and urged Nigerians not to click on the link or submit their personal information through it.
The electoral body warned that providing personal details on the fraudulent platform could expose users to the risk of having their sensitive information harvested or misused.
INEC also clarified that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026. It said claims that a new nationwide online registration exercise is currently being conducted through the website are false.
The fake platform reportedly claims to offer a final phase of nationwide online voter registration, including services for updating voter information, transferring registration to another polling unit and replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.
INEC urged members of the public to disregard the platform and rely only on information released through its official communication channels.
The commission’s official voter portal currently states that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise has ended, while registered voters can still check their voter status and PVC collection information.
The development comes as political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections increase across the country, raising concerns over the spread of misleading electoral information online.
INEC advised Nigerians to verify claims about voter registration, PVCs and other electoral services before providing personal information or taking action.
Members of the public can contact the INEC Citizens Contact Centre through its official hotlines, including 0700-CALL-INEC, shortcode 4632, or the commission’s published telephone and email channels for clarification.
The commission said Nigerians should remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unofficial platforms claiming to provide electoral services on its behalf.
