The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday brief Nigerians and key stakeholders on its preparations for the 2027 general elections as the country enters the final 100-day countdown to the polls.

The commission said it will hold a World Press Conference alongside a National Stakeholders’ Meeting on October 6, 2026, in Abuja.

According to INEC, the engagement will provide updates on major areas of its preparations, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures being introduced to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the press alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

The meeting will bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.

Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to participate.

INEC said the national stakeholders’ meeting was part of its commitment to transparency, proactive communication and broader engagement with stakeholders ahead of the elections.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10am.

The 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on March 6.

The commission has continued preparations for the polls, including the implementation of its electoral timetable and activities leading to the nomination of candidates by political parties.

The voter register remains another major area of focus as INEC works to update and maintain accurate records of eligible voters ahead of election day.

The commission has also been developing systems to improve monitoring of election preparations across the country, including the movement of materials, training of ad hoc personnel and state-level readiness.

As the countdown reaches 100 days, political parties are expected to intensify their preparations, while security agencies and other stakeholders will play key roles in ensuring peaceful elections.

INEC has repeatedly called on political parties, candidates and voters to comply with electoral laws and avoid conduct capable of undermining the electoral process.

Tuesday’s briefing is therefore expected to give Nigerians a clearer picture of the commission’s readiness and the major activities still outstanding before the 2027 general elections.
