I Will Make Life Affordable Again — Atiku Promises Nigerians

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to make life more affordable for Nigerians if elected president in 2027.

Atiku made the pledge while outlining his proposed approach to tackling the rising cost of living and the impact of fuel prices on households and businesses.

He said his administration would introduce a capped and budgeted production subsidy for petrol refined in Nigeria, including fuel produced by modular refineries. Imported petrol, he said, would not qualify for the proposed support.

According to Atiku, the policy would be designed to lower the cost of locally refined fuel and, in turn, reduce transportation expenses, food distribution costs and energy bills for businesses.

He said the government would publish the cost of the programme and subject payments to independent audits to ensure transparency and prevent diversion.

Atiku argued that reducing fuel costs would have wider effects on the economy, particularly for families and small businesses that depend heavily on transportation and energy.

He said his objective was to put more disposable income in the hands of Nigerians by reducing the amount households spend on fuel and transportation.

The ADC candidate also said the proposed policy would support domestic refining, create jobs and strengthen local production.

“I will make life affordable again. I will make Nigeria affordable again,” Atiku said.

His comments come amid continued political debate over the removal of petrol subsidy and its effects on the cost of living.

Atiku has repeatedly criticised the Federal Government’s economic policies and called for measures that would provide direct relief to Nigerians facing higher food, transportation and energy costs.
