Hrgovic Vows to Smash Itauma in Rematch
Filip Hrgovic has vowed to deliver a more dominant performance if he gets another chance against Moses Itauma.
IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic has vowed to “smash” Moses Itauma if the pair meet again in a rematch.
Hrgovic shocked Itauma in August by stopping the previously unbeaten British heavyweight in the ninth round of their IBF world title contest in London. Itauma had dominated much of the fight before Hrgovic rallied late to secure the stoppage.
Reflecting on the bout after watching it back, Hrgovic said he believes he could have performed much better and was eager for another opportunity to face the 21-year-old.
The Croatian said he could have thrown more punches, been faster and fought more aggressively during their first meeting. He acknowledged that Itauma’s speed and counterpunching created difficulties but insisted he would make adjustments in a second encounter.
“I want a rematch with this guy,” Hrgovic said, adding that if the rematch happens, he will “smash” Itauma.
Itauma had called for an immediate rematch after suffering the first defeat of his professional career. His promoter, Frank Warren, however, has urged the young boxer to take time away from the sport before considering another fight with Hrgovic.
Hrgovic has also praised Itauma’s ability, describing him as a fast and talented heavyweight capable of becoming one of the division’s leading fighters if he learns from the defeat.
For now, Hrgovic’s immediate plans could involve defending his IBF title against mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez, although a rematch with Itauma remains a possibility.
The first fight remains one of the biggest heavyweight upsets of 2026, with Hrgovic overcoming sustained pressure from Itauma before finishing the contest in the ninth round.
