Gunmen suspected to be armed kidnappers have reportedly invaded a community in Ondo State, abducting a traditional ruler and shooting his wife during the attack, in the latest wave of insecurity affecting parts of the state.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the community in large numbers and targeted the monarch’s residence, where they forcefully whisked him away to an unknown location.

The assailants were said to have shot the monarch’s wife during the operation, leaving her injured before fleeing the scene with their victim.

Residents reportedly fled for safety as gunfire erupted during the invasion, causing panic across the community. Security sources say the incident is part of a growing pattern of violent attacks and kidnappings targeting rural settlements in Ondo State.

Local vigilante groups and security operatives have since been mobilized to comb surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the abducted traditional ruler and track down the perpetrators.

The Ondo State Police Command is expected to intensify investigations into the incident, as communities continue to call for stronger security presence and rapid response measures to curb repeated attacks in the region.

Ondo State has witnessed a series of similar incidents in recent months, raising concerns among residents over safety in rural and semi-urban areas.
