GCI Old Boys, IPNX Partner to Digitise Government College Ibadan

The Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) has entered into a landmark partnership with IPNX Nigeria Limited, a leading provider of connectivity and ICT solutions, to deliver a campus-wide digital transformation of the historic institution, in a move aimed at restoring the 97-year-old school to its rightful place among Nigeria's foremost centres of academic excellence.

The partnership, formally unveiled at a signing ceremony in Lagos, will see IPNX deploy high-speed internet connectivity, smart classroom infrastructure, digital learning platforms, and enhanced campus security systems across the Government College Ibadan campus. The initiative is designed to equip students and teachers with the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world while preserving the school's storied legacy of academic rigour and character formation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the National President of GCIOBA, who led the association's delegation, described the partnership as a watershed moment in the association's ongoing efforts to reposition the school for the 21st century. He noted that Government College Ibadan, founded in 1929, had produced some of Nigeria's most distinguished citizens, including Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, and that the digital transformation would ensure that future generations of GCI students enjoyed the same competitive advantage as their predecessors. "Our alma mater gave us the foundation upon which we built our careers and our lives. This partnership is our way of giving back, of ensuring that the school that shaped us continues to shape generations yet unborn," he said.

The GCIOBA president explained that the digital transformation project was conceived after extensive consultations with the school's management, students, and technical experts, who identified critical gaps in the institution's ICT infrastructure. He said the association was determined not merely to make symbolic interventions but to deliver tangible, sustainable improvements that would directly enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

Under the partnership, IPNX will provide fibre-optic connectivity to the entire campus, ensuring that every classroom, laboratory, library, and administrative office has access to reliable, high-speed internet. The company will also install interactive smart boards, projectors, and audio-visual systems in designated smart classrooms, enabling teachers to deliver more engaging and interactive lessons. A centralised digital learning management system will be deployed to give students and teachers access to e-books, educational videos, and online assessment tools, while a campus-wide surveillance system will strengthen security for students, staff, and school property.
