Free SHS programme records 1.2 million enrolments in 2024/25 academic year
The Ghana Education Service reports 1.2 million students enrolled in the Free Senior High School programme in the current academic year.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reported that 1.2 million students are enrolled in the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme in the 2024/25 academic year, with national transition rates from JHS to SHS reaching 79 per cent.
Director General Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa said the programme had transformed access to secondary education, particularly for girls and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Government has pledged an additional GH¢800 million to address infrastructure gaps.
