Frankfurt Complete Signing of Super Eagles Midfielder Raphael Onyedika
Eintracht Frankfurt have signed Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge on a contract running until 2031. The Nigerian joins after winning two Belgian league titles and making 26 appearances for the Super Eagles, with Frankfurt expecting him to play a key role in their midfield this season.
German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Belgian champions Club Brugge, with the Nigerian international signing a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031. The move ends weeks of transfer speculation and strengthens Frankfurt's midfield ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
The 25-year-old joins the German side after four successful seasons at Club Brugge, where he established himself as one of the Belgian league's top defensive midfielders. Since arriving from Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2022, Onyedika won two Belgian Pro League titles, featured regularly in the UEFA Champions League and earned a reputation for his consistency, physicality and tactical discipline.
Reacting to the signing, Frankfurt's board member for sport, Markus Krösche, described Onyedika as an important addition to the squad. He praised the Nigerian for his physical strength, strategic understanding of the game and remarkable consistency, adding that the midfielder still has significant room for development despite his experience at the highest level.
Onyedika's performances in Belgium also helped cement his place in the Nigerian national team. Since making his Super Eagles debut in 2022, he has earned 26 international caps and scored three goals, becoming a regular figure in Nigeria's midfield. His experience in European competitions is expected to bolster Frankfurt as the club targets another strong Bundesliga campaign and a return to the UEFA Champions League.
The midfielder is expected to make his competitive debut for Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal first-round tie against St. Tönis on August 21, before the club begins its Bundesliga campaign away to Union Berlin on August 29. His arrival continues Frankfurt's squad rebuild as the club prepares for the challenges of the new season.
