Oyebamiji Leads Osun APC’s Separate Tinubu Campaign Council
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has constituted a 168-member presidential and parliamentary campaign council, appointing its 2026 governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as Director-General ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a 168-member presidential and parliamentary campaign council to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 election, Bola Oyebamiji, will serve as Director-General of the council, while the state APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, was named Deputy Director-General.
Oyebamiji’s running mate, Benjamin Adereti, and Kehinde Olamolu were appointed Assistant Directors-General I and II, respectively.
The council also includes the party’s three senatorial candidates and nine House of Representatives candidates, alongside former political officeholders and other party leaders.
Among those named are former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Foluke Etteh; former deputy governors Adeleke Adewoyin, Iyiola Omisore, Titi Laoye-Ponnle and Adegboyega Alabi; retired General Alani Akinrinade; and Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Lawal, who said the committee was established to strengthen the party’s campaign structure and coordinate efforts towards securing victory for Tinubu and APC candidates at the national and state legislative levels.
He said the decision followed the inauguration of the national APC Presidential Campaign Council by Tinubu in Abuja on October 14 and the subsequent inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council by Governor Ademola Adeleke on October 22.
The formation of the separate committee comes amid disagreements within the Osun APC over the composition and leadership of the campaign council inaugurated by Adeleke.
The governor was appointed coordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the state, with the council comprising members and political figures from different parties, including the APC, Peoples Democratic Party and Accord Party.
However, several prominent APC leaders, including Oyebamiji, Lawal and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, were absent from the October 22 inauguration.
Before the event, Lawal had complained that the state party leadership was not adequately consulted before the council was announced, although he maintained that the APC supported Tinubu’s re-election bid.
At the inauguration, Adeleke clarified that the political understanding among the coalition partners was limited to the presidential election and did not extend to legislative contests.
The new APC committee is expected to work alongside the existing state campaign structure to mobilise support for Tinubu and the party’s legislative candidates.
