FG Seeks Private Sector Support to Advance Space Economy
Federal Government seeks stronger private sector participation to expand Nigeria’s space economy and drive innovation.
The Federal Government has called for increased private sector participation in Nigeria’s space sector as part of efforts to expand the country’s space economy and promote technological development.
The government said stronger collaboration between public institutions and private businesses would help unlock opportunities in satellite technology, telecommunications, agriculture, navigation, security and other areas that depend on space-based services.
The call was made as Nigeria continues efforts to strengthen its position in the global space industry and develop local capacity in space science and technology.
The government noted that the private sector has an important role to play in providing investment, technical expertise and innovative solutions needed to develop a sustainable space economy.
It also stressed the need for stronger partnerships between government agencies, technology companies, research institutions, universities and other stakeholders.
According to the government, increased private investment could support the development of locally designed space technologies while creating jobs and opening new opportunities for Nigerian businesses.
The Federal Government said space technology is no longer limited to scientific research, noting its growing importance to economic planning, communications, environmental monitoring, disaster management and national security.
It therefore encouraged Nigerian entrepreneurs and investors to explore opportunities within the emerging space economy.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment for private-sector participation through appropriate policies, infrastructure development and institutional support.
Nigeria has maintained an active space programme through the National Space Research and Development Agency and has deployed satellites for telecommunications, earth observation and other applications.
Officials said closer cooperation with the private sector would be critical to translating Nigeria’s space capabilities into broader economic benefits and positioning the country to participate more effectively in the growing global space economy.
