A former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Funmilayo Ogun, has pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 after defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ogun, a former Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, announced her commitment in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, saying her decision to join the APC was driven by her desire to advance her political career and contribute to development in the state.

She said she had concluded that the APC offered a platform through which she could support Tinubu’s re-election bid and help Governor Biodun Oyebanji implement his administration’s development agenda.

“I am really committed to joining the party to rally support for President Bola Tinubu to win the 2027 re-election and to also help Governor Oyebanji achieve his agenda for the state,” she said.

Ogun disclosed that she had joined the APC with her supporters across Ekiti State and planned to begin intensive mobilisation across the wards in Ido/Osi Local Government Area, working alongside existing party leaders.

She said her more than 16 years of experience in the private sector, alongside her previous service as commissioner under former Governor Ayodele Fayose, had equipped her with the experience to contribute to the party’s activities and governance efforts.

The former PDP official also expressed appreciation to former governors Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Fayose for their leadership and support for Oyebanji’s administration.

Receiving Ogun and her supporters into the APC, the party’s chairman in Ido/Osi Local Government Area, Adewumi Aina, described the defection as an addition to the party’s membership and political structure.

Aina urged existing members to welcome the new entrants and assured them that they would enjoy equal rights and privileges within the party.

He encouraged party members to cooperate with Ogun and her supporters in advancing the APC’s political activities in the local government area.

Ogun’s defection comes as political parties and their supporters begin preparations for the 2027 general election, with mobilisation efforts gathering pace across Ekiti State.

She said she would work with other APC leaders to engage residents and build support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign, as well as for Oyebanji’s development agenda.
