Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Frank Mba, has explained his decision to establish a law firm after 34 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force, describing the move as an opportunity to contribute to society in a different capacity.

Mba spoke during the unveiling of his law firm, Frank Mba Legal, in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Friday, October 9, 2026. The event coincided with his birthday celebration and attracted senior serving and retired police officers, government officials, business leaders and other dignitaries.

He said his years in the police had equipped him with valuable experience in leadership, discipline, conflict management and the administration of justice, which he intended to apply in his new career.

Mba described retirement as a transition rather than the end of public service, adding that his legal training and experience in law enforcement would guide his work as a private legal practitioner.

He said the law was not merely a profession but an instrument for protecting rights, resolving disputes, upholding justice and strengthening public confidence in institutions.

The former police chief also expressed his ambition to build a law firm that clients could trust and which would maintain high standards of professional conduct.

Mba retired from the Nigeria Police Force in March 2026 after 34 years of service. During his career, he served three times as Force Public Relations Officer and also worked as Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State.

He later served as Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and headed the Department of Training and Development as a member of the Force Management Team, contributing to the professional development of police personnel.

His transition into legal practice builds on his academic qualifications. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Lagos, attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.

He subsequently earned a Master of Laws degree with distinction from the University of Dundee in Scotland.

Mba’s career also included international service with the Nigerian police contingent to the United Nations Mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007, for which he received a United Nations Medal.

The unveiling of Frank Mba Legal marks a new professional chapter for the retired officer, who intends to combine his legal qualifications with decades of experience in policing, public communication and institutional administration.
