EPL: Haaland Injury Doubt Ahead of Liverpool Clash Against Man City
Manchester City face uncertainty over Erling Haaland’s fitness after the striker limped off while on international duty.
Manchester City have been handed an injury concern ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool after Erling Haaland limped off during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League defeat to Portugal.
The 26-year-old striker signalled to the Norway bench during the second half and was substituted in the 67th minute, with Jørgen Strand Larsen coming on in his place.
Haaland was able to leave the pitch without assistance, but the nature and severity of the injury have yet to be confirmed. Manchester City are expected to await further medical assessments before determining whether their leading striker will be available for the trip to Anfield.
The timing of the setback could be significant for City, who are due to face Liverpool on Sunday, October 11, in a meeting between two of the Premier League’s leading sides.
Haaland has been one of City’s most important attacking players this season, making his fitness a major concern for manager Enzo Maresca ahead of the fixture.
City have made a perfect start to their league campaign, winning all five of their opening matches and sitting at the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain unbeaten after five matches.
The Norwegian’s injury scare comes after City also lost Nico O’Reilly from the England squad for further assessment over an unspecified injury.
Haaland’s possible absence would leave City facing an important test without their main goalscoring threat. He has already played a key role in the club’s strong start to the campaign and his availability could influence Maresca’s attacking plans for the Anfield encounter.
There is currently no confirmed indication that Haaland will miss the match, and City will monitor his condition over the coming days.
The Liverpool-Manchester City fixture is scheduled for 4:30pm BST on Sunday at Anfield.
