EPL: Bournemouth Thrash Man United 3-0, Pressure Mounts On Carrick
Bournemouth defeated Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, extending the hosts’ winless run to eight matches and intensifying pressure on Michael Carrick.
Manchester United suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 25, 2026, as manager Michael Carrick faced renewed scrutiny following another disappointing performance in the Premier League.
Goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson secured a convincing victory for Bournemouth, leaving United with seven points from eight league matches and just one point above the relegation zone.
Bournemouth broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Rayan finished at the far post following a free-kick delivered by Justin Kluivert. The visitors doubled their advantage five minutes later after a defensive error allowed Tavernier to slot the ball into an unguarded net.
The two goals left the home supporters frustrated, with boos ringing around Old Trafford as the teams headed into the interval.
Carrick attempted to change the course of the match after the break, introducing Matheus Cunha, but United struggled to create meaningful opportunities against a disciplined Bournemouth side.
Evanilson initially had a goal ruled out for offside shortly after the restart. However, the Brazilian forward eventually made it 3-0 in the 71st minute, beating goalkeeper Senne Lammens to a long ball before finishing into the unguarded goal.
The defeat extended United’s winless run across all competitions to eight matches, adding to the pressure already facing Carrick following a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como earlier in the week.
Carrick’s decision to leave captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench throughout the match also attracted attention. Fernandes had recently criticised the team’s tactical approach following the defeat in Italy, although Carrick maintained that his selection decision was based on footballing considerations.
Speaking after the Bournemouth loss, Carrick acknowledged the difficult situation facing the club and admitted uncertainty about what would happen next, while insisting that he remained committed to doing his best for Manchester United.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, continued their impressive run under manager Marco Rose, recording their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions.
The result leaves United under increasing pressure to improve their performances, with their next Premier League fixture against Chelsea scheduled for October 31.
For Carrick, the immediate challenge will be restoring confidence, improving defensive organisation and securing results to prevent Manchester United from slipping further down the table.
