El-Rufai’s Family Disowns Viral Letter Allegedly Sent to ADC Leadership

The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has disowned a letter circulating on social media and purportedly addressed to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as fake and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, speaking on behalf of the family, said the document, titled “Urgent Message” and dated July 14, 2026, did not originate from the former governor.

According to the statement, the letter, allegedly addressed to the ADC National Chairman and National Secretary, was fabricated and should be completely disregarded by party members and the general public.

“The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled Urgent Message,” the statement read.

The family maintained that neither the content nor the handwriting in the document belonged to El-Rufai, insisting that the letter was part of an attempt to create confusion within the opposition party.

It accused unnamed individuals of engaging in desperate political tactics aimed at sowing division and misleading the public.

“The fake letter shows another resort to desperation by Mallam’s traducers who seek to sow confusion and division. Their attempt at politics by fakery should be dismissed and condemned,” the statement added.

The family further described the circulation of the document as an example of “primitive politics,” urging those responsible to be ashamed of their actions.

The viral letter, which gained attention online, reportedly questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate for Kaduna State.

It claimed that Ashiru had failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline, alleging that the omission violated the party’s constitutional requirements.

The document also called on the ADC’s national and state leadership to intervene and review the nomination process.

However, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the letter was entirely fabricated and urged Nigerians, party members and supporters to ignore it, stressing that the former governor had no connection with the document or its contents.
