Ekiti Gov Dissolves Boards, Drops Political Appointees

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals in the state, alongside the termination of appointments of several political appointees.

The decision was announced on Sunday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, who said it was part of the administration’s preparations for the transition into Oyebanji’s second term.

The affected political appointees include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants.

According to the statement, the move became necessary as the governor’s first term gradually winds down ahead of the inauguration of his second term, scheduled for October 16, 2026.

However, the dissolution does not affect chairmen and members of certain statutory boards and commissions. These include the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place.

The government further clarified that although the boards of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission have been dissolved, their respective chairmen will remain in office.

Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.

The affected political appointees were thanked for their contributions to the administration and service to Ekiti State.

The governor expressed appreciation for their roles in implementing government programmes and wished them success in their future endeavours.

The latest restructuring comes as Oyebanji prepares to begin his second term in office following his victory in the June 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.

The administration is expected to make further adjustments to its political and administrative structure as the new term approaches.

The dissolution is therefore expected to pave the way for the reorganisation of government boards and appointments ahead of the commencement of the governor’s second tenure.
