Ebonyi Commissioner Says Brother’s Killing Was Not Politically Motivated

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Chief Sunday Inyima, has dismissed allegations that the killing of his younger brother, Egeonu Inyima, was politically motivated.

Inyima described the claims as false, misleading and fabricated in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Tuesday, insisting that the deceased was not involved in any political dispute with anyone.

He spoke while receiving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ohaukwu Local Government Area chapter, who visited his country home in Izhiangbo to commiserate with him over the killing.

Egeonu was reportedly killed by suspected assailants at Umuogudu-Oshia Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

The commissioner condemned attempts to associate the killing with political conflict, warning that spreading unverified information could create unnecessary tension within the community.

He described his brother’s death as unfortunate and barbaric, adding that the family would work with security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

Inyima called on the police and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, stressing that justice must be pursued without political interference or the wrongful accusation of innocent people.

Although he said he remained deeply traumatised by the loss, the commissioner cautioned against using the incident to target individuals who might have no connection to the crime.

He insisted that nobody, regardless of their position or status, should interfere with the investigation or legal proceedings.

The commissioner urged members of the public to allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their responsibilities professionally and ensure that those found culpable were brought to justice.

He also appealed for restraint among individuals discussing the incident, warning against the circulation of claims that could undermine the investigation.
