Don Urges Graduates to Shun Corruption, Uphold Integrity
Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, has urged graduates to reject corruption, maintain high moral standards and use their education to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.
The Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, has charged graduating students to shun corruption, uphold integrity and apply their knowledge towards addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
Adelakun gave the charge on Saturday during the university’s fourth convocation ceremony, where 140 students graduated, including 27 who earned First Class honours.
Addressing the graduates, he urged them to remain disciplined, hardworking and committed to ethical values as they begin the next phase of their lives.
He warned them against allowing the pursuit of wealth, power or social status to compromise their character, stressing that academic qualifications must be accompanied by integrity and responsible conduct.
“You must become the answer to Nigeria’s prayer and not a prayer point as the problem of the nation,” he said.
The chancellor encouraged the graduates to resist corrupt practices in all their forms and demonstrate honesty in their personal and professional lives, regardless of prevailing societal attitudes.
He also highlighted the university’s progress since its establishment seven years ago, noting that all its academic programmes had received full accreditation, while three were due for reaccreditation in 2026.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jonah Akoun, said the institution offered 16 academic programmes across its faculties and had a student population of 780 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic session.
Akoun said the university continued to strengthen its academic standards and student development initiatives through work-study opportunities, research ethics measures and efforts to address sexual harassment.
He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing an environment that promotes academic excellence, ethical conduct and personal growth.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Pastor Dolapo Adelakun, congratulated the graduates and commended their parents, guardians and university staff for their contributions to the students’ achievements.
He urged the graduands to remain resilient, uphold integrity and use the knowledge acquired to develop practical solutions to societal problems.
The overall best graduating student, Nadia Rita Bayakly, of the Department of Mass Communication, recorded a perfect cumulative grade point average of 5.0 out of 5.0.
The ceremony marked another milestone for the institution as it continued its efforts to combine academic achievement with character development and responsible citizenship.
