Delta NDC Gov Candidate Calls for Accountability, Job Creation

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, has called for greater accountability, transparency and job creation in the state.

Iyovwaye made the call in a statement issued on Friday in response to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Independence Day message, in which the governor urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, courage and patriotism.

He said Deltans had made significant sacrifices and called for leadership that would demonstrate similar commitment through development programmes and policies.

Iyovwaye urged the state government to publish details of revenues and allocations received from the Federation Account between 2023 and 2026.

He also asked the government to disclose how much of the increased FAAC revenue received in 2025 was spent on capital projects that created jobs, compared with recurrent expenditure and other government commitments.

The NDC candidate also called for the revival of economic activities around Delta’s ports, saying the facilities at Warri, Koko, Sapele and Burutu could contribute significantly to employment generation.

He said government policies should translate into improved living conditions and greater opportunities for residents, arguing that patriotism should be reflected in practical improvements such as employment, functional ports and effective public services.

Iyovwaye further called for improved basic infrastructure, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities and access to clean water across the state.

On workers’ welfare, he acknowledged the state government’s increase of the minimum wage to N77,500 but said rising living costs remained a concern for residents.

He called for what he described as a “reset” centred on transparency, industrialisation, job creation and accountable governance.

Iyovwaye urged Deltans to remain actively involved in the affairs of the state, saying civic responsibility should accompany prayers and patriotic expressions.
