Chrisland University Hails Governing Council Member Prof. Falaye's Emeritus Professorship by UI
Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has celebrated the appointment of its Governing Council member, Prof. Augustine Falaye, as an Emeritus Professor by the University of Ibadan. Describing the honour as a testament to his decades of impactful scholarship, the university's Vice-Chancellor noted that his vast experience continues to add immense value to the institution's governance and strategic direction.
Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has celebrated the recent appointment of one of its Governing Council members, Prof. Augustine Eyiwunmi Olumuyiwa Falaye, as an Emeritus Professor by the management of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The university, in a statement released on Friday, said the honour accorded to Falaye was particularly significant as the Professor of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management continued to bring his wealth of knowledge, experience and institutional leadership to the institution as a member of its Governing Council.
Falaye reportedly joined the University of Ibadan as an Assistant Lecturer in 1983 and rose through the academic ranks before attaining the position of Professor in 1997. His areas of expertise were said to include aquaculture, fisheries management, fish nutrition and sustainable aquatic environmental development.
The statement from Chrisland University noted, "For Chrisland University, the honour is particularly significant as Professor Falaye continues to bring his wealth of knowledge, experience and institutional leadership to the University as a member of its Governing Council".
Congratulating Falaye, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Oyedunni Sola Arulogun, described the conferment as a well-deserved recognition and "a testament to his decades of impactful scholarship, service and commitment to the advancement of education".
The VC said, "Prof. Falaye's elevation to the status of Emeritus Professor is not only a personal achievement but also a source of pride to Chrisland University and the wider academic community". She further noted that "Prof. Falaye's vast experience and wealth of knowledge continue to add immense value to the University's governance and strategic direction, and we are highly proud of his accomplishments and contributions to excellence in academics and national development".
The University of Ibadan recently approved the appointment of a former Vice-Chancellor and Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Prof. Isaac Adewole; two former Deputy Vice-Chancellors; and 14 other distinguished academics as Emeritus Professors. The appointments, approved by the Senate of the university, recognise the scholars' contributions to teaching, research, scholarship, administration and the development of the institution.
Among those appointed alongside Falaye were Prof. Adenike Emeke of the Institute of Education; Prof. Rotimi A. Oderinde of the Department of Chemistry; Prof. Alexander B. Odaibo of the Department of Zoology; and Prof. M. A. O. Ayeni of the Department of Geography. Others include Prof. Helen Osinowo of the Department of Psychology; Prof. S. Babatunde Agbola of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning; Prof. Stephen O. Akpavie of the Department of Veterinary Pathology; Prof. Kolawole T. Jaiyeoba of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy; Prof. Oladimeji Oladepo of the Department of Health Promotion and Education; Prof. Matthew T. Shokunbi of the Department of Anatomy; Prof. Olayemi O. Omotade of the Institute of Child Health; Prof. Adegoke G. Falade of the Department of Paediatrics; and Prof. Michael C. Asuzu of the Department of Community Medicine.
The conferment of Emeritus Professorship is one of the university's highest forms of recognition for distinguished academics, acknowledging their scholarly contributions and continued association with the institution.
Chrisland University expressed its appreciation to Falaye for his continued service and commitment to the growth of the institution while wishing him many more years of impactful scholarship, mentorship and service to humanity.
