CAN Urges FG to Make Prosperity Felt in Every Nigerian Home
The Christian Association of Nigeria has urged the Federal Government to reduce living costs, strengthen social protection and improve security so Nigerians can feel the benefits of economic reforms.
The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN has urged the Federal Government to ensure that the benefits of its economic reforms translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians.
The association made the call in a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, on Thursday to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
CAN said the country needed to move beyond economic reform statistics to a phase where prosperity was reflected in the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.
It urged the government to make the reduction of food, transportation and energy costs measurable priorities, noting that citizens who had endured prolonged economic hardship deserved meaningful relief.
The association also called for stronger social protection for vulnerable households, including improved access to education, healthcare and affordable credit.
It stressed that such interventions must be transparently administered and protected from diversion to ensure that assistance reached intended beneficiaries.
CAN said prosperity remained incomplete if it did not reach ordinary households, adding that economic progress should enable families to afford basic necessities, young people to secure decent work and children to have opportunities to build their future.
On security, the Christian body urged the government to sustain efforts to protect lives and communities, saying economic growth would have limited meaning if citizens could not farm, trade, travel or sleep peacefully because of insecurity.
The association also called on the government to create an environment where farmers, traders and other citizens could pursue their livelihoods without fear.
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, CAN cautioned politicians against presenting themselves as the ultimate solution to Nigeria’s problems or using religion to advance partisan interests.
It reaffirmed its commitment to remaining non-partisan while speaking on issues affecting citizens and holding public officials accountable to principles of justice, accountability and compassion.
CAN prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in Nigeria, urging Nigerians to remain committed to building a country where economic gains translate into improved living conditions for all.
