BREAKING: Osi Balogun Of Ibadanland, Oba Isioye-Dada, Passes Away
Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has died after a brief illness in Ibadan, triggering expected traditional succession changes within the Ibadan chieftaincy hierarchy.
The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has passed away after a brief illness, a palace source confirmed on Friday.
The monarch reportedly died at his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he had been receiving treatment prior to his death.
A palace insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the news of his passing was immediately followed by the movement of a delegation of Omo Oye to his residence.
According to the source, traditional protocols were swiftly activated following the confirmation of his death in line with Ibadan customary practices.
Until his demise, Oba Isioye-Dada held the prestigious title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, one of the key chieftaincy positions within the well-structured traditional hierarchy of Ibadanland.
The Ibadan traditional system is known for its organised succession ladder, which allows for orderly progression among chiefs in the Balogun line as vacancies occur.
Following his death, attention has now shifted to the expected succession process, which is likely to trigger a series of promotions among senior chiefs within the hierarchy, subject to approval by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
One of the expected changes is the elevation of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, who currently holds the position of Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland.
He is expected to move up to the position of Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland as part of the traditional succession arrangement.
Similarly, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin is also expected to be elevated from Ekerin Balogun to Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland, pending formal ratification by the Olubadan-in-Council.
The Osi Balogun stool is one of the most respected titles in Ibadan’s chieftaincy system, which has long been admired for its structured and peaceful method of leadership succession.
Community members and palace associates described the late monarch as a respected traditional figure who contributed significantly to the cultural stability of Ibadanland.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and the Olubadan-in-Council after necessary traditional rites have been observed.
Further details surrounding his death were still being awaited as of press time, while condolences continue to pour in from within and outside the traditional institution.
