BREAKING: Armed Men Allegedly Abduct Sowore in Ekiti, Vandalise Restaurant
AAC raises the alarm after armed men reportedly attacked Sowore and his campaign team at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, with his whereabouts unknown.
The African Action Congress (AAC) has raised the alarm over the alleged abduction of its 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, following an attack by armed men at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1 p.m. on Friday, October 30, while Sowore and members of his campaign team were at the restaurant.
Sowore first disclosed the attack in a post on his official Facebook page, writing: “Thugs just attacked us inside a restaurant in Ado Ekiti.”
In a subsequent post, his campaign raised further concern, alleging that armed men had kidnapped the activist and that his whereabouts were unknown.
The campaign also alleged that the attackers vandalised the restaurant during the incident.
In a statement signed by Abdulkareem Musa, spokesperson for the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign, the team described the development as a serious security concern and called on relevant authorities to intervene.
It urged the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure Sowore’s safety.
The campaign also demanded an immediate security assessment, appropriate protective measures and a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
It warned against the use of violence and intimidation in political activities, stressing that elections should not become a basis for attacks on citizens or political opponents.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the alleged attack or abduction.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of the attackers and the whereabouts of Sowore and his team, remained unclear.
Sowore, a human rights activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, is the AAC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
