Bayern President Plays Down Haaland Move Amid Man City Uncertainty
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has played down speculation about signing Erling Haaland if Manchester City face relegation, saying the German club is well equipped in attack but may reassess its options in the coming years.
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has played down suggestions that the German champions could move for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland if the English club faces relegation over its financial regulations case.
Hainer made the remarks during an interview with German media outlet BILD on Sunday, when asked whether Bayern would consider signing the Norwegian international if City were forced out of the Premier League.
He pointed to Bayern’s existing attacking options, including England captain Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, insisting that the club did not currently need to strengthen its forward line.
“We have Kane, Olise, Diaz and more. We scored over 120 goals last season. So, I think we are very well equipped in attack,” Hainer said.
However, the Bayern president did not completely rule out the possibility of a future move, indicating that the club’s position could change over the next few years.
“If we’re talking about the future in a few years, then there will be a new situation, and we’ll see,” he added.
The comments come amid uncertainty surrounding Manchester City following a ruling against the club over breaches of Premier League financial regulations. City has appealed the decision, while potential sanctions have fuelled speculation about the futures of some of its players.
Haaland, who joined City in 2022 after playing for Borussia Dortmund, has established himself as one of the leading strikers in European football. Bayern had previously been linked with the forward before his move to England.
For now, Hainer’s remarks suggest that Bayern are satisfied with their current attacking strength and are not treating Haaland as an immediate transfer priority.
The club’s longer-term plans could change depending on its future squad needs and developments in the transfer market.
