APC Names Omisore, Fubara to 276-Member Osun Governorship Campaign Council

APC has appointed Omisore and Fubara into its 276-member council for the Osun governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed former Osun State Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to its 276-member National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

The council, unveiled on Sunday by the party’s National Working Committee, will be chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

According to a notice signed by APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, the campaign council will be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja.

The appointment of Omisore is expected to dispel recent speculation over his commitment to the APC following the defection of some of his political associates to the Accord Party in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

The rumours gained traction after Omisore was absent from the APC governorship campaign flag-off in Ile-Ife, prompting claims that he had distanced himself from the ruling party.

The campaign council features several prominent APC leaders and government officials.

Apart from Uzodimma, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas will serve as co-chairmen.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, was named deputy chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will serve as secretary of the council.

According to the notice, the council comprises governors, members of the APC National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, party leaders and other stakeholders drawn from across the country.

The APC is expected to deploy the campaign council to coordinate nationwide mobilisation and strategic activities ahead of the Osun governorship election, regarded as one of the party’s major political contests before the 2027 general elections.

The inclusion of Omisore is also seen as a move to strengthen party unity and consolidate support in Osun State as the campaign enters a decisive phase.
