A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to remain focused on governance and intensify efforts to address insecurity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oyintiloye made the call while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday against the backdrop of a recent security alert by the Department of State Services (DSS) over possible attacks on vulnerable locations, particularly in southern Nigeria.

The former lawmaker urged the President not to be distracted by opposition activities, saying the government should concentrate on strengthening security measures and protecting lives and property.

He called for increased surveillance, improved intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration among security agencies to prevent attacks and respond promptly to emerging threats.

Oyintiloye also urged security agencies to strengthen protection around schools, places of worship, NYSC facilities, parks, garages and other locations considered vulnerable, particularly with schools currently in session.

He called for an immediate and transparent investigation into recent killings in Osun State, urging authorities to identify and prosecute anyone found to have participated in, sponsored or facilitated the violence.

The APC chieftain appealed to transport workers, community leaders, traditional rulers and religious leaders to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist investigations and prevent further attacks.

He also urged service chiefs to review their operational strategies where necessary and called on state governors to provide adequate support and resources to security agencies within their jurisdictions.

Oyintiloye said governors and local government chairmen also had important roles to play because of their proximity to communities, particularly in strengthening local intelligence and maintaining peace.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies while supporting efforts to maintain peace and stability across the country.
