The Anambra State Government has set December 31, 2026, as the deadline for landowners to recertify their old Certificates of Occupancy and have their records captured in the Anambra State Geographic Information System.

The State Ministry of Lands announced the deadline in a public notice dated September 1, 2026, signed by its Permanent Secretary, Nkeiru Mokwe.

The ministry said the old land administration system would be shut down indefinitely after the deadline, meaning holders of unrecertified C of Os would be unable to process certain transactions through the ministry.

The affected transactions include mortgages, Deeds of Assignment, Certified True Copies, registration of Powers of Attorney and other land-related services.

The ministry said titleholders must complete the recertification process and have their records captured in the ANAMGIS database before accessing the affected services under the new system.

It explained that the exercise was aimed at updating existing land records and integrating them into Anambra’s digital land administration system.

The government urged landowners who had not started the process to submit their applications without delay to avoid difficulties accessing land administration services after the deadline.

The ministry, however, clarified that failure to recertify by December 31 would not automatically invalidate an existing Certificate of Occupancy.

Rather, the immediate consequence would be restrictions on specified transactions requiring processing through the Ministry of Lands.
