Anambra Govt Urges APGA Supporters to Resist Obi, NDC

The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA to resist former governor Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC ahead of the 2027 general election.

The government made the call in a post on its official X account, managed by the New Media Office of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, on Monday.

It accused Obi, who governed the state from 2006 to 2013, of working against APGA after leaving the party, alleging that his political activities had undermined the party that brought him to power.

In a graphic titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA”, the state government said Obi had pursued what it described as a mission to destroy APGA since 2014.

It further alleged that while President Bola Tinubu supported APGA, Obi backed opposition interests in the 2015 political contest.

The government urged APGA supporters to defend the party and reject the NDC in the 2027 election, as Obi is expected to contest the presidency on the platform of the party.

The statement comes amid an ongoing political disagreement between Obi and the Soludo administration, including disputes over financial obligations associated with projects implemented during Obi’s tenure as governor.

Obi has rejected the state government’s claims concerning the loans, saying the facilities were primarily development programmes negotiated by the Federal Government and accessed by participating states through subsidiary arrangements.

He has also maintained that he left office without unpaid salaries, pensions, gratuities or verified obligations to contractors and suppliers.

Soludo has previously declared his support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, while APGA has also endorsed Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate.

As of Monday, Obi and members of his team had not publicly responded to the latest statement by the Anambra State Government.
