Meet Abena Serwaah: the 23-year-old leading Ghana's agri-tech revolution
At just 23, Abena Serwaah has built a thriving hydroponic container farm business supplying premium vegetables to Accra's top hotels and restaurants.
In a repurposed shipping container in Tema, a quiet agricultural revolution is under way. Abena Serwaah, 23, has built GreenBox Farms, a hydroponic container farming enterprise that supplies premium lettuce, cherry tomatoes and bell peppers to Accra's top hotels.
"I started with a GH¢5,000 grant, a bucket, some nutrient solution and a lot of YouTube videos," she laughs. Three years later, GreenBox operates four containers, employs eight young people and turns over GH¢35,000 monthly.
She now mentors 20 other young agri-entrepreneurs and plans five more container farms across the country by 2027.
