AbdulRazaq Pledges to Reduce Housing Deficit in Kwara, Inaugurates 464-Unit Estate in Ijagbo

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has pledged to intensify efforts to reduce the state’s housing deficit as he inaugurated a 464-unit housing estate in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area.

The estate, named AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Morire Housing Estate, comprises 210 two-bedroom terrace apartments, 200 three-bedroom units and 54 four-bedroom terrace duplexes.

AbdulRazaq, who was represented at the inauguration by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, said his administration considers access to decent housing essential to the wellbeing and stability of residents.

He described housing as a fundamental human need and said the state would continue to support initiatives aimed at increasing housing supply and improving living conditions.

The governor identified the high and rising cost of building materials, limited access to housing finance, difficult land administration processes, infrastructure gaps and institutional challenges as some of the factors contributing to Nigeria’s housing deficit.

He commended ISHI Homes Limited for partnering with the state government and choosing Kwara for the development.

The project was described as an example of how government policies and private-sector investment can work together to expand housing delivery.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of ISHI Homes, Dr Olayinka Ilufoye, said the project was designed to make home ownership more accessible to civil servants, traders and other Nigerians, particularly residents of Kwara South.

Ilufoye said prospective homeowners could access the properties through the National Housing Fund, NHF, scheme, adding that the company was committed to transparency, quality construction and timely delivery.

The governor also highlighted reforms in land administration, noting that the processing time for Certificates of Occupancy had been reduced from about 180 days to 35 days.

He said the reforms were intended to make land administration more efficient, transparent and attractive to investors.

The latest development adds to the state government’s housing initiatives, including the Kwara Smart City and its collaboration with the Federal Government and private developers.

The administration said it would continue to pursue partnerships capable of expanding access to decent and affordable housing across the state.
