2027: Tinubu Retains Shettima as Running Mate
APC confirmed Kashim Shettima as Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 election after submitting their nomination forms to INEC before the deadline.
The All Progressives Congress has confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation over the composition of the party’s presidential ticket.
The ruling party announced the decision on Friday as it formally submitted the nomination forms of Tinubu and Shettima ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline for presidential and National Assembly candidates.
The nomination forms were presented to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony attended by governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, members of the party’s National Working Committee, state chairmen and governorship candidates.
The submission comes ahead of INEC’s deadline for political parties to upload the nomination forms of their candidates through its online portal in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
Presenting the forms, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, described the exercise as the formal presentation of the duly completed nomination forms of the party’s presidential and vice presidential candidates.
He urged party members to remain united as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election.
Speaking on behalf of APC governors, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma reaffirmed the governors’ commitment to supporting President Tinubu and the party, expressing confidence that the APC would retain power.
Receiving the nomination forms, Yilwatda said the event reflected the confidence party members had in Tinubu’s leadership and highlighted the administration’s programmes in education, infrastructure and agriculture.
He urged party leaders to mobilise support across the six geopolitical zones, expressing optimism that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket would secure another electoral victory.
“We will all come out and mobilise across the six geopolitical zones. I am sure there will be healthy competition among the governors,” he said.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka also confirmed that the party had officially retained Tinubu and Shettima as its presidential and vice presidential candidates.
The confirmation effectively ends months of speculation over Shettima’s position on the APC ticket and sets the stage for the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
