2027: Sowore Slams NDC, Accuses Obi Of Renting Party Every Election
Omoyele Sowore has accused Peter Obi of switching political platforms for electoral advantage, questioning the NDC’s role ahead of 2027.
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and accused its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of using political parties as temporary platforms during election seasons.
Sowore made the allegations in a statement published on his social media account, arguing that Obi’s political realignments would not deliver the fundamental changes Nigeria needs ahead of the 2027 general election.
He also questioned the NDC’s operations, alleging that party leaders generated ₦9 billion from the sale of nomination forms while operating the party from their homes. The claim was part of Sowore’s criticism of the party’s structure and leadership.
Describing Obi as an unprincipled politician, Sowore argued that repeatedly changing political platforms during election periods undermines efforts to build a lasting political movement capable of challenging Nigeria’s established political system.
He alleged that Obi’s political strategy was intended to redirect public dissatisfaction rather than confront the structures responsible for the country’s political and economic problems.
Sowore also criticised political figures whom he accused of managing opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration rather than mounting a more forceful challenge to it.
Among those he mentioned were Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, whom he accused of contributing to political narratives that distract Nigerians from deeper governance concerns.
The AAC candidate maintained that genuine political change requires sustained grassroots organisation, independent political structures and mobilisation beyond election campaigns. He has previously defended the AAC as a party built through the contributions and commitment of its members.
Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party before moving to the NDC ahead of the 2027 election. His political movements have attracted debate among opposition supporters as parties and political figures explore strategies for the next general election.
Sowore’s latest remarks add to disagreements among opposition figures over whether political realignments and alliances can provide an effective alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The allegations against Obi and the NDC represent Sowore’s political claims. They do not, by themselves, establish that Obi’s motives or the party’s financial dealings are as he described them.
