Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have emerged as the three states with the highest number of registered voters ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figures on Tuesday in Abuja while presenting an update on the national voters’ register following the completion of the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise and biometric clean-up.
The latest register contains 103,428,715 registered voters nationwide.
Lagos leads the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with 7,488,633 registered voters. Kano follows with 6,570,276, while Kaduna ranks third with 4,662,640.
Katsina occupies fourth place with 3,876,051 registered voters, followed by Rivers with 3,736,434.
Oyo ranks sixth with 3,588,111 voters, while Delta has 3,525,988. Benue follows with 3,057,225, Ogun has 3,037,981 and Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,012,547 registered voters.
The three-phase voter registration exercise produced 10,772,421 new registrations before INEC completed its final biometric verification and clean-up of the register.
The commission said the new figures provide an updated picture of Nigeria’s electorate ahead of the 2027 elections and will be used for further electoral preparations.
At the other end of the register, Ekiti has the lowest number of registered voters among the states, with 1,055,708, followed by Bayelsa with 1,200,691.
The Federal Capital Territory has 1,732,043 registered voters, placing it among the areas with the smallest voter populations.
Amupitan said male voters account for 53,528,218, representing 51.75 per cent of the register, while female voters number 49,900,497, representing 48.25 per cent.
Voters aged between 35 and 49 years form the largest age group, with 43,265,946 registered voters, or 41.83 per cent. Those aged 18 to 34 account for 29,777,576, representing 28.79 per cent.
INEC also announced that newly issued Permanent Voter Cards will be available for nationwide collection from October 9, while the updated register will be displayed for public scrutiny from October 9 to 15, 2026.
