2027: If Fuel Comes Down to ₦600 Tomorrow, I Will Campaign for Tinubu — Amaechi

African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would withdraw as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for ₦600 per litre.

Amaechi made the statement on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the 2027 presidential election and the impact of fuel prices on Nigerians.

The former Rivers State governor challenged the Tinubu administration to bring the price of petrol down to ₦600, saying he would personally verify the price at a filling station.

“If fuel comes down to ₦600 tomorrow, I will withdraw as vice president for Atiku and I will campaign for Tinubu,” Amaechi said.

Amaechi, who is the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the ADC ticket, has been critical of the government’s economic policies, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy.

He argued that the high cost of fuel has contributed to increased transportation expenses and wider economic hardship for Nigerians.

The former Minister of Transportation also addressed concerns about the 2027 election, saying he did not believe President Tinubu would attempt to rig the poll.

Amaechi said his decision to contest against Tinubu was not based on personal hatred, stressing that he maintained a relationship with the President.

“Nobody hates Tinubu. I love Tinubu, he knows,” he said.

His comments come as the cost of petrol and the broader economic impact of subsidy removal remain major issues in political discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.
