2027: I Am Not Behind Opposition Against Tinubu, Fayemi Denies Galadima’s Claim

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has rejected a claim by Nigeria Democratic Congress chieftain Buba Galadima that he is coordinating a seven-man opposition group against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Galadima made the allegation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed efforts by opposition politicians to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election.

According to Galadima, he was part of a group of seven opposition figures meeting under Fayemi’s coordination to develop a strategy for the election.

He said the group was working towards defeating Tinubu and claimed that discussions among the politicians were making progress.

However, Fayemi’s media aide, Julius Ogunro, dismissed the allegation, saying there was no truth in the claim.

Ogunro also referred to an earlier denial by Ahmad Sajoh, head of Fayemi’s media office, following a similar allegation made in August by Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate.

Sajoh had said Fayemi remained a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State.

The latest denial maintains Fayemi’s stated position within the APC despite the former governor’s continued involvement in political discussions and debates surrounding the 2027 election.

Fayemi served two non-consecutive terms as governor of Ekiti State between 2010 and 2022 on the APC platform.

Galadima’s allegation comes amid increasing political consultations among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

During the television interview, Galadima also discussed a proposed strategy in which opposition parties could field separate candidates and potentially encourage their supporters to rally behind one candidate close to the election if an agreement were reached.

He argued that opposition parties could no longer legally produce a single joint candidate on their various platforms at the current stage of the electoral process.

The NDC chieftain said he was among the politicians involved in discussions around the proposed strategy.

Fayemi, however, has not confirmed participation in the group described by Galadima. His media team has instead maintained that the former governor remains committed to the APC.

The exchange comes as political parties and prominent politicians continue to hold consultations, form alliances and debate strategies ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

The claims and counterclaims involving Fayemi and Galadima remain part of the broader political realignment taking place ahead of the election.
