2027: Destruction of Tinubu Posters in Viral Video Staged — Keyamo

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has alleged that a viral video showing the destruction of campaign posters bearing the images of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima was deliberately staged.

The video showed a man using what appeared to be a machete to tear down several posters, with the words “Tinubu Must Go” displayed in the footage.

Reacting to the video on Friday, Keyamo described the incident as a planned propaganda stunt allegedly organised by opposition elements ahead of the 2027 general election.

The minister said the fact that the incident was deliberately recorded and circulated suggested that it was intended to create a particular political narrative about public support for Tinubu.

Keyamo also alleged that similar incidents were being staged in other parts of the country and subsequently presented as evidence that the President had been rejected by Nigerians.

He contrasted the incident with a separate case in Lagos, where he said some individuals were seen using Tinubu posters to cover posters belonging to an opposition party.

While acknowledging that such conduct was also unacceptable, Keyamo criticised what he described as different reactions from some media organisations to the two incidents.

The minister stressed that his comments were not a call for supporters of the All Progressives Congress to retaliate.

He urged Nigerians to consider the circumstances surrounding such videos before drawing conclusions about public opinion ahead of the 2027 elections.

Keyamo’s comments come as political parties and political groups intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 general election, with campaign messaging increasingly taking place both online and through physical posters and rallies.
