Wike-Backed PDP Faction Dismisses Anyanwu Suspension Claims, Says Appeal Misrepresented

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting that Senator Samuel Anyanwu was suspended from the party, describing such claims as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, clarified that while Senator Anyanwu did file an appeal, it was not connected to any suspension process. The statement was issued under the leadership of Abdurahman Mohammed.

The PDP has continued to experience deep internal divisions, with rival camps emerging over control of the party structure. One bloc is led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and enjoys the support of Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. The opposing faction is led by Mohammed and is backed by Wike.

According to Mohammed, the controversy surrounding Anyanwu’s legal action has been misrepresented in the public space. He explained that the appeal originated from a dispute at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, where Anyanwu challenged the proceedings of a disciplinary committee rather than any suspension order.

He further noted that the disciplinary panel in question, chaired by Tom Ikimi, only issued a recommendation for suspension, which was never adopted or ratified by the party’s National Working Committee or National Executive Committee. As a result, he argued, no formal suspension was ever in effect.

Mohammed added that the committee itself was later disowned by the party leadership for allegedly violating provisions of the PDP Constitution. He maintained that its recommendations therefore carried no legal or administrative weight.

He also referenced the January 12, 2026 ruling of Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court, noting that the court did not affirm any suspension but instead dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds, stating that internal party disputes fall outside judicial review.

The statement added that the appeal filed on April 10, 2026, has now been deemed unnecessary and is in the process of being withdrawn.

The faction also reiterated that Senator Anyanwu and others mentioned in related reports had already completed their tenure in office. It further cited earlier court judgments and party conventions as evidence supporting the legitimacy of its current leadership structure.

Mohammed urged the public, party members, and stakeholders to disregard what he called misleading narratives, insisting that they were intended to create confusion within the party and the wider political space.
