The Balogun of Ibadanland and member of the Olubadan-in-Council, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has advised the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to stay away from partisan politics, warning that any political involvement could undermine the neutrality of the traditional institution.
Speaking with journalists at his palace in Sanyo, Ibadan, on Thursday, Oba Ajibola stressed that the Olubadan stool is a revered cultural authority that must remain above political affiliations and interests. He maintained that the throne is not a political office and should not be associated with any political agenda.
The traditional ruler expressed concern over rising tensions and circulating claims linking the Olubadan to political activities, including allegations of plans to impeach the state governor or attempts to depose the monarch. He dismissed such reports as baseless rumours and urged the public to disregard them.
Oba Ajibola said he had engaged respected elders to intervene in the matter, expressing confidence that the Olubadan would reconsider his position in the interest of peace, unity, and stability in Ibadanland.
He noted that many of the narratives circulating in the public space were inaccurate and stemmed from misunderstandings, adding that no formal crisis exists within the traditional institution.
The Balogun also acknowledged ongoing governance efforts in the state, commending achievements recorded in key sectors such as education and development. He urged residents to support initiatives that promote growth rather than fuel political tension.
He further emphasised that traditional rulers are expected to remain politically neutral, warning that any perceived alignment with partisan politics could erode the dignity of the stool and create confusion within the community.
Oba Ajibola called for dialogue and understanding in addressing concerns, stressing that issues should be resolved at their root without escalation. He assured that governance processes remain intact and are being handled in accordance with the rule of law.
Appealing for calm, unity, and restraint, he urged citizens to avoid spreading misinformation and to focus on collective progress. He reiterated that maintaining the neutrality and integrity of the Olubadan institution is essential to sustaining peace and stability in Ibadanland.
