The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports suggesting it is considering a political alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that it may pursue legal action against those spreading what it described as false claims.
The party made its position known on Tuesday as speculation about possible coalition talks intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections. It insisted that it is not engaged in discussions with any political party and remains focused on rebuilding its structure and strengthening its position as a credible opposition force.
Speaking at the inaugural National Working Committee meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, factional National Chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammed, who is aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said the reports were entirely unfounded.
“In light of recent speculations, we wish to state unequivocally that the PDP is not engaged in any merger or coalition discussions with the ADC or any other political party in Nigeria,” Muhammed stated.
He reaffirmed that the PDP remains an independent political platform with a clear strategy to reclaim national leadership.
The party also criticised statements attributed to a factional leader, Kabiru Taminu Turaki, describing them as misleading and an attempt to create the false impression that coalition talks were ongoing.
According to Muhammed, such claims are not only inaccurate but also capable of misleading the public and undermining the integrity of the party.
He added that while the PDP respects freedom of expression, it would not tolerate actions that could damage its reputation.
“The PDP will take all necessary legal steps to address any conduct that borders on misrepresentation or contempt of court, in line with existing laws,” he said.
