President Bola Tinubu has extended condolences to the government and people of Kebbi State following the killing of 11 security personnel in a bandits’ attack in Shanga Local Government Area and the death of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman-Zuru.
The President’s message was delivered on Tuesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. He described the incidents as “profound and painful,” expressing the Federal Government’s sympathy to the bereaved families and affected communities.
Condemning the attack, Tinubu characterised the killing of the security personnel as a “barbaric act,” while commending their bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty. He assured the state of continued federal support in addressing security challenges and restoring peace.
“We are here to express our deep sympathy to the families of the fallen soldiers and the affected communities,” Shettima said on behalf of the President. “We are also here to condole with you over the demise of the Speaker.”
Responding, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, said the visit reflected the Federal Government’s solidarity with the state during a difficult period. He disclosed that the slain operatives were ambushed while responding to a distress call in Shanga, highlighting the risks faced by security personnel on the frontlines.
Idris also revealed that the late Speaker had been flown abroad for medical treatment but died despite efforts to save his life. He noted that the state had done everything possible to ensure adequate care before his passing.
Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, Sanusi Mika’ilu, commended the government for supporting victims’ families and affected communities.
The visit comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Kebbi State, with authorities pledging intensified efforts to combat banditry and strengthen safety across the region.
